December 9, 2020

Over time, our bodies break down–this can lead to pain, especially in certain joints. There are things we can do, however, to keep our bodies feeling young! Exercise and eliminating bad habits like junk food, smoking, and other detrimental actions are great steps. There are also certain “superfoods” that can help manage your pain!

How Can Food Fight My Pain?

What we put into our bodies is vital to what we get out of them. Antioxidants and proteins can help our bodies get the fuel they need to heal and perform at their best. However, there are some foods that stand above the rest!

Superfood:

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a part of many great dishes–it also has some special properties. Oleocanthal, a compound in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, has special anti inflammatory properties. Are you seeing a pattern with these foods? EVOO also has another trick up its sleeve called lubricin. This helps prevent the breakdown of cartilage and keep joints sliding smoothly.

Bonus Food:

Red Wine

Studies have found a compound in the skin of red grapes called resveratrol. This compound reduces disk swelling that can lead to back pain. That doesn’t mean drink a whole bottle of red wine by yourself, though! Drink moderately and enjoy.
