Keto Diet and Its Benefits

Keto Diet and Its Benefits
September 16, 2019

The ketogenic diet first developed in the 1920s was to help epileptic seizures in children. It is still being used for this purpose now, but the philosophy is healthier fats and less processed carbohydrates to be fitter.

This diet is also known as the keto diet and it has an approach of high fat and low carbs and is highly recommended by the weight loss clinic in OKC. When fat is metabolized, the body produces different broken-down structures called as ketone bodies and the body utilizes it to keep going.

It could sound unreasonable that eating a high amount of fat can make you lose weight and manage glucose levels, but this is what the ketogenic diet claims to do. A keto diet consists of eating moderate fat amount and protein amount that aims to reduce the consumption of sugar, carbohydrates, starch, and fiber. Though this diet was originally created for treating epilepsy, but it has gained a lot of attention for its benefits on weight loss and glycemic control.

Ketogenic Diet and Potential Benefits

A ketogenic diet reduces carbohydrates”the main source of energy for the body” so that the body basically switches gears and instead starts to use fat for energy. Research shows that a ketogenic diet can result in important weight loss and can have a major effect on obesity reduction. A dramatic reduction in carbohydrates can also assist in stabilizing blood sugar concentrations and minimize the need for insulin, as a blood sugar spike with fewer carbohydrates entering the body is less likely to occur.

Other research has explored the effect of a ketogenic diet on diabetes and found that it can have a positive impact on hemoglobin A1c. It is essential to remember that several research on the keto diet concentrated on type 1 rather than type 2 diabetes.

Unlike other common low-carb diets, the keto diet focuses on eating big quantities of heart-healthy fats from ingredients such as eggs, nuts, seeds, salmon, and avocado. Most keto books and diet plans also concentrate on deriving most nutrients from foods that are minimally processed and complete.
